Located in the South Texas Medical Center in San Antonio, Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital (MSTH) is licensed for 382 beds. The hospital is widely acclaimed throughout the Southwest for its specialized medical services including heart, kidney, pancreas and liver transplants, as well as latest procedures to treat impotency, incontinence and gastroenteric illnesses. Other specialty areas include emergency care, inpatient rehabilitation, behavioral medicine, bariatric surgery/care and the latest treatments for cancer. The facility also houses a program in which a specially trained team works with law enforcement officers to provide care for survivors of sexual assault.

MSTH is home to the Texas Transplant Institute, the busiest kidney transplant program in Texas and among the top 10 in the nation. The program has performed the most live kidney donor transplants in Texas, using minimally invasive laproscopic techniques for most procedures. The heart transplant program is the first Medicare-certified program of its kind in South and Central Texas and is the Medicare-approved site in the region for patients needing long-term assist device therapy. The liver transplant program includes a liver failure clinic that offers a variety of services, including Interferon treatments, chemoembolization and radio frequency ablation procedures.

The Methodist Cancer Center is part of the facility, treating all types of cancers with the latest radiation therapies, including the advanced Gamma Knife and CyberKnife. The Center treats cancers of the prostate, head, neck, breast, thyroid, and lung, as well as in gynecologic, liver and brain tumors, lymphomas and sarcomas as well as some non-cancerous conditions and lesions.

The hospital has been named by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence in recognition of their program's demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery.

The hospital is currently undergoing renovation to increase space for the transplant clinics and upgrade the look of the hospital. The hospital owns several medical office buildings in the area with one connected to MSTH.

Located in the suburb of Live Oak, Northeast Methodist Hospital is a 153-bed facility serving the healthcare needs of the surrounding Randolph Metrocom community of northeast San Antonio. Conveniently located off of Interstate 35 and Judson Road (San Antonio to Austin corridor), Northeast Methodist Hospital has developed an array of services to meet the health care needs of the surrounding community for the past 20 years. Services include emergency care for adults and children, open heart surgery, cardiac catherization, general surgery, orthopedics, rehabilitation, gastroenterology, behavioral medicine and cancer care.

The hospital is one of the fastest growing cardiology programs in South Texas; an additional catherization lab and expanded CICU beds were recently added to keep up with the demands of cardiology patients.

The hospital just underwent a $50 million expansion that included a new patient tower housing more ICU beds and expanded emergency room that tripled in size. The remainder of the hospital went through a complete renovation, with a new entry way, cafeteria and renovated departments throughout the hospital.

There is a medical office building directly beside the campus and the Northeast Methodist Ambulatory Surgery Center is adjacent to the hospital.

The only hospital in San Antonio designed and built especially for children, Methodist Children's Hospital is a 170-bed acute care facility that opened in 1998. This premier children's facility features seventeen pediatric critical care beds and one of the largest private practice NICU care units in the city. There are seven dedicated pediatric operating suites and dedicated children's imaging diagnostic services.

Specialized services of the hospital include: the region's only blood and marrow stem cell transplant program offering hope for children with leukemia, sickle cell anemia and immunodeficiency syndromes; the Methodist Children's Heart Institute featuring a multidisciplinary team including experienced board-certified pediatric cardiologists dedicated to complex congenital cardiac and thoracic diseases and a Pediatric Outpatient clinic that holds over fifteen specialty clinics including brain tumor, asthma and craniofacial/cleft lip and palate.

Being situated adjacent to Methodist Hospital, PACS digital imaging system is used throughout the Methodist Children's Hospital.

The hospital is currently undergoing an expansion that includes a major increase in NICU space, more overall ICU beds and more space for the emergency department.

Methodist Hospital, a 672-bed acute care, regional referral center with 2,500 employees, is the pioneer flagship hospital of the South Texas Medical Center. It is the region's largest private hospital as well as the largest provider of healthcare to rural communities in South Texas and international patients from Mexico. Methodist is the most preferred hospital for a range of services including: Blood and Marrow Stem Cell Transplant Program, Oncology, Cardiology, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Neurosciences and Orthopedics. The Texas Neurosciences Institute and the region's only Gamma Knife are also located on the campus.

Methodist Hospital consistently rates high in consumer, employee and physician quality surveys, being one of four hospitals to win the National Consumer Choice Award from the National Research Corporation five times.

The hospital owns four medical office buildings in the immediate vicinity, most being connected to the hospital by walkways. Currently, more than 2,200 physicians representing virtually all medical specialties comprise the medical staff. PACS and Cardiology PACS capability have been installed and are in use throughout the hospital and extended to physicians who practice at the hospital. The campus is currently undergoing major renovations and expansion to keep pace with the needs of the community.

Located near downtown San Antonio, Metropolitan Methodist Hospital is a 278-bed acute care facility, providing a complete range of health care services to San Antonio and the many neighborhoods and businesses that border its centralized location. Metropolitan Methodist Hospital offers excellent mother and baby care, general medical and surgical care, specialized orthopedic surgery and care, oncology care, behavioral medicine, neurosurgery, heart services, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, sleep disorders evaluation and a 24-hour emergency department.

The hospital was among the nation's first hospitals to utilize a centralized robotic drug distribution system that automates the storage, retrieval, and dispensing of bar-coded medications.

The Metropolitan Methodist Women's Pavilion, a 50,000 square foot building, was constructed in 2005 as part of a $50 million expansion project. The Pavilion is the only stand-alone hospital facility in the downtown area specializing in women's health care. Currently, the emergency department is undergoing expansion and will triple in size when it is complete in mid-2006.

Methodist Heart Hospital is the largest hospital in South Texas dedicated to matters of the heart. The hospital, located within Methodist Hospital, is 120,000 square feet with 120 beds. It is the area's leader in the treatment of heart disease and has pioneered many firsts in cardiac care including the first balloon angioplasty in the region in 1981, the region's first heart valve transplant, and the first broadcast of a beating heart bypass operation. It houses four cardiac catheterization labs, two electrophysiology labs, four dedicated cardiovascular operating suites, a 12-bed cardiac intensive care unit, a 14-bed cardiac surgical intensive care unit and a 6-bed cardiac observation unit.

Cardiology PACS capability has been installed and is in use throughout the hospital and extended to physicians who practice at the hospital. 3-D programming is used to view cardiac images taken at the facility.
